A cross I made a few years ago for St. Brigid's Day - one of our Patrons Saints here in Ireland. I've always been quite drawn to her, and I find her calm presence here an enigmatic one. While a patron saint, she is also thought to be the continuation, or rather an amalgamation, of a once-worshipped goddess long before Christianity came to this island. This piece reflects this, as I wove it of paper as I contemplated Brigid the Saint, and Brigid the Goddess. Our lady of Spring and rebirth, of poetry and healing, and even a patron saint of blacksmithing. A renaissance woman if there ever was one.
Please note, this is a delicate item. It comes unframed, and as such is reflected in the price. This needs to be framed to be protected and enjoy for years to come, preferably in a float mount to appreciate it fully (choice is yours though, of course).
Braided Khadi paper, archival pen, gold ink, and hand-dyed silk ribbon. Approx 11 x 12 inches. Signed on reverse. Unframed.
